Pastor's Welcome

Grace Reformation Church
of Woodland welcomes you to our website.  We are delighted to share with you some information about us and hope you will find it helpful.
This church exists for the glory of God and for the edification of His people.  We strive to bring God glory through worshiping Him, expressing our total dependence on Him by praying together, and lovingly submitting to His Word.  We work to build one another up, cultivating Christian growth, as we individually and corporately practice the Biblical commands to love and care for one another.
We live in challenging times, not in weakness, but in the all-sufficient strength of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

We would love for you to visit us as you prayerfully consider where God would have you serve Him and commit yourself to His people in a local church body.

We meet on Sunday mornings with mid-week Women’s and Men's Bible Studies hosted in members’ homes.

Grace and peace to you in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ron Poarch
Pastor

Pastor Ron Poarch earned his bachelor’s degree from Azusa Pacific University (1986) and his master’s degree (MAR) from Westminster Theological Seminary in California (1993).
Ron and Jeanne are the proud parents of three children (Josiah, Tirzah and Isaiah) and four grandchildren (Eathan, Corbin, Kody and Nova) and one on the way.  Ron enjoys reading, golfing, playing basketball, walking and rooting for the Oakland A’s, Golden State Warriors and Raiders (wherever they’re playing).

People often like to know who has had an impact on the thinking of a pastor.  Some of the professors that influenced Ron in college and seminary were Tom Schreiner, John Frame, John Gerstner, Robert Godfrey and Robert Strimple.  They have made lasting impressions over many years of ministry.  Ron values the influence of other men through their writing, teaching and preaching ministries:  RC Sproul, John MacArthur, Gary Demar, Ed Clowney, Ken Gentry and James White.
Ron has been in pastoral ministry in Woodland since 1987.  He served as Youth Pastor at Woodland Bible Church from 1987-1991 and 1993-2002.  Ron attended Westminster Seminary in San Diego 1991-1993.  In 2002 Ron became Pastor of Grace Reformation Church of Woodland, a Reformed, Baptist Church.

Young Sunday School Ministries
(Due to Covid-19 youth classes are not being held until further notice)
Jr. High Sunday School is generally for children transitioning into Jr. High at around 12 or 13 years age.  Students may join earlier or later depending on their overall maturity and readiness for reading directly from the Bible. Previously, we have looked at the scriptures supporting the story line of a wonderfully illustrated version of Pilgrims Progress.  Next we followed the narrative story of the Bible using the fully illustrated Action Bible as a framework and then we read directly from the ESV or NIV versions of the Bible.  Care is taken to emphasize the key verses which form the basis of our understanding of God, our standing before Him, and the way of salvation through faith in Jesus.  Significant time is given to asking the students what they think about what we are reading in an effort to draw out their own thinking on the discussion topic.  Finally, we are always keeping one eye open for opportunities to make class time enjoyable and interesting for our transitioning children through role playing, use of supporting materials and activities.
Last year, we went through a lengthy series, joined with the Adult Sunday School class, studying God’s design for the family, using John MacArthur’s book entitled “The Fulfilled Family” and Paul Tripp’s teaching series “Five Words that Change a Family.”

(Due to Covid-19 youth classes are not being held until further notice)

1st-5th/6th Grade Elementary Sunday School studied the Pilgrim's Progress book and learned what it meant to live like a Christian.  In class we read, memorized verses, drew maps, and played games that centered around the Pilgrims Progress book which is about a young man who learns about the joys and trials of the Christian life. Previously, this class covered all 39 Old Testament Books, focusing on key stories, people, places, dates, and where each book fit in the Bible. The themes of this class cover simple overviews of Old & New Testament books and highlights, John Bunyan's, Pilgrim's Progress with each theme taking about 1 year, which rotate every 3 years, so students get a second chance to learn anything that may have been missed.

Our Adult Sunday School Ministry

(Due to Covid-19 Sunday School classes are not being held until further notice)
Christian growth is the typical theme of our adult Sunday School program, and we address a wide variety of such topics and utilize various means to present that subject in ways that hopefully encourage pondering biblical truths, provide focused discussion and identification of practical applications of God’s Word to our lives.
The class format varies somewhat with the class leader, and may include handouts, study guides or video recorded teachings from select teachers followed by discussion time.

Order of Service
(Due to the CoVid-19, all meetings are held online until further notice)
We gather to glorify our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, worshipping Him in truth and love in accord with what we believe is an acceptable biblical pattern.  Our liturgy includes elements found in very old writings about what occurred in the early churches, which has been a staple for God’s churches over the centuries.  We ask for His grace to offer our praise with a love, intensity and focus that comes only from His Spirit and truth working in us.

Here’s the general order of our worship service: (1) welcome/announcements; (2) call to worship/confession of sin; (3) worship in song; (4) hear reading of the sermon-focused passage of Scripture; (5) share in the ministry of praise and prayer from both our corporate and individual lives; (6) congregational reading from the London Baptist Confession of Faith; (7) sermon (generally expositional preaching); (8) Lord’s Supper; (9) closing benediction; and (10) acknowledgement of birthdays and anniversaries, and fellowship time.

Our congregational singing at GRC is a blend old and new.  We love the older doctrinally rich hymns and find blessings in modern choruses, too.

GRC's attire leans towards business-casual, though you’ll see jeans and an occasional suit.  Our congregation consists of approximately 15 households, including marrieds and singles, and a wide range of ages.  We encourage arriving 10 minutes early for welcoming and settling in.
